Every message you might see, what it means, and how to fix it.
Installing#
| You see |
Fix |
command not found: gitpanda |
~/.local/bin isn't on your PATH. Run ~/.local/bin/gitpanda shell --install, or see Install. |
node: command not found, or a syntax error on start |
Install Node 18 or newer: node --version must say v18 or later. |
'upgrade' is not a gitpanda command |
Your version is older than 2.1. Run the installer once; upgrade works after that. |
Couldn't write …/gitpanda: EACCES on upgrade |
It's installed somewhere you can't write. Reinstall to ~/.local/bin, or run the installer with sudo and GITPANDA_INSTALL_DIR. |
Signing in#
| You see |
Fix |
You're not signed in |
gitpanda login. |
You're not signed in to 'acme' |
That company wasn't ticked when you approved. gitpanda login again and tick it. |
The code expired |
Codes last 15 minutes. gitpanda login again. |
Sign-in was declined in the browser |
Someone clicked Cancel. Run it again. |
| The browser didn't open |
Copy the address the terminal shows, or go to okaypanda.com/app/device and type the code. |
That API key isn't valid |
The key was revoked or mistyped. Sign in again. |
signed out (the key was revoked) in repos |
gitpanda login again. |
This key doesn't have the "work" scope |
Sign in again and choose "Read and work". |
Auto mode needs a key with the approve scope |
Sign in again and tick "Also approve work" (owners and admins). |
Viewers can only read |
Your role in the company is viewer. Ask an owner to change it. |
Too many sign-in attempts |
Wait an hour, or sign in from another network. |
Repositories#
| You see |
Fix |
Not inside a GitPanda clone |
cd into a clone, or gitpanda clone <repo>. |
destination path 'acme' already exists and is not an empty directory |
Pick another folder: gitpanda clone acme ~/elsewhere/acme. |
This clone's state is unreadable |
The .gitpanda folder was damaged. Clone again, and copy your edited docs across. |
diff says there's no earlier copy |
The clone predates diffs. gitpanda pull once. |
Pushing and pulling#
| You see |
Fix |
! [rejected] … (fetch first) |
Someone changed that document. See Conflicts. |
skipped … written by your team from real work |
READMEs, files and images are read only. Edit a document under docs/. |
New documents go in docs/ or in a room's docs/ folder |
Move the file into docs/ or <room>/docs/. |
There's no room called "…" |
Check the folder name against gitpanda rooms. |
That document is too long |
Documents can be up to 60,000 characters. Split it. |
no changes added to commit |
gitpanda add <file> first, or gitpanda commit -am "…", or gitpanda sync -m "…". |
Please write a message |
gitpanda commit -m "what changed". |
A .theirs file appeared |
A conflict on pull. Merge it into your file and delete it. |
Your AI team#
| You see |
Fix |
There's no room called "…" |
Use a name from gitpanda rooms (like customer-support). |
This department has no active employee to talk to |
Hire someone into that room in the app. |
Goal not found |
Use G-12 or the goal's id, from gitpanda goals --all. |
Only owners and admins can approve or decline |
Ask an owner or admin, or have them make you one. |
This approval was already decided |
Someone got there first. |
| A goal stays "ready" |
Its work is queued. It runs in order and within the company's AI budget; check the budget in the app. |
Connect GitHub first |
In the app: AI Connect → GitHub. |
Pick a repository the GitHub connection can use |
The token doesn't reach that repository. Update it in AI Connect. |
No one may open pull requests yet |
Give an employee the "Open a pull request" permission in the app, or connect GitHub. |
| You see |
Fix |
The company's daily AI budget is used up |
Raise the budget in OkayPanda → Settings, or try again tomorrow. Search and history still work. |
That's a lot of AI requests. Wait a minute. |
Each key or person can make 20 AI requests a minute and 300 a day. |
The AI couldn't answer: … |
Usually the company's AI budget is used up or the AI is briefly unavailable. Check the budget in the app, or try again. |
not sure: it may not cover this |
The repository doesn't seem to contain the answer. Try gitpanda search, or ask a room: gitpanda ask <room> "…". |
isn't a document you can change (edit) |
edit works on documents under docs/ or <room>/docs/. |
There's no AI edit to undo |
edit --undo only undoes the last AI edit in this clone. Use gitpanda restore <file>. |
Sign in to ask the AI about this repository (web) |
Sign in to OkayPanda. The AI is for the company's members and people it's shared with. |
Just say it#
| You see |
Fix |
That would change something. Run it yourself, or add --yes |
You're in a script (no terminal to ask). Add --yes, or run the command it showed. |
Did you mean: status? |
A typo. Run the suggested command. |
| It picked the wrong command |
Be more specific ("ask the repository…", "edit marketing/docs/plan.md…"), or run the command yourself. |
Display#
| You see |
Fix |
| A box instead of 🐼 |
export GITPANDA_ASCII=1 |
Strange characters like [38;5;208m |
Your output isn't a real terminal. Set NO_COLOR=1. |
| The prompt doesn't show |
Open a new terminal after shell --install, and make sure you're inside a clone. |
